    • "Christian Johanneson Olterudøgarden", born 16 Mar 1823 in Østre Toten, Oppland, Norway. Came to America with his two brothers, Peder and Johannes, and their mother, Berthe Hendriksdatter Nygaardsæter. They traveled on "Tricolor", which sailed from Christiania and reached New York on 25 Jul 1846. Married on 17 Jun 1848 at Neenah, Wisconsin, to Pernille Christophersdatter.
      Civil War: Farmer. Married. Age 42. Blue eyes, light hair, ruddy complexion, 5'6". Enlisted for one year on 31 Aug 1864 at Green Bay, Wisconsin, and mustered there the same day. Bounty $100. Private. Enlistment credited to Clayton, Winnebago County. Mustered out with his company on 26 Jun 1865 at Washington DC.

      Christian Johnson (deceased), one of the pioneer settlers of Winnebago county, was a native of Norway, born in 1823, and his youth was passed there until 1845, when he Emigrated to America, and first settled in Racine county, this state. He remained there one year and then moved two Winnebago county, he was first located on section 21, but soon after wards bought the farm in section 8, where he remained until his death, wooden occured May 1, 1888. In the dark days of the rebellion he volunteered in the First Wisconsin Heavy Artillery and served about ten months until the close of war. He served as Become a patriot and received an honorable discharge at Ft. Lyons, Va. June 27, 1865 ..... In 1847 he was married to Pernella Christopherson, and this union was blessed with four children, one of Whom is now living, Charles J. born December 3, 1848 ...       I kirkeboka for Grace Lutheran Church, Larsen, Wisconsin, hvor John Johnson døpte borna sine. Står det: "There arrived the first Norwegians to the Neenah settlement as it was then called in the autumn of 1846. They came from Muskego in Racine county, Wisconsin. Their visit here at that time was only temporary, as when they had located the land they were satisfied with, left again but returned the followin year to locate permanently. Among those may be named were Soren Wilson, Anders Thompson and John Rue. There may have been more in this party, but it is not certain. Reports thereof are so conflicted.
      The following year (1847) about May 20th was marked by the arrival of three brothers, Christian, Peter and John Johnson (Ødegaarden), Paul Hansen and aslo Soren Wilson whom then returned. Also same yeare there arrived Svend Torgersen, Jorgen Olson Landsverk, John Bjørndalen, Ole Uvaas, John Amundson and others. Some of these returned to Muskego that following winter, but came bac and brought others with the next year...
      Elling Eielson had preached here several times, but thwer were no organized congregatrion before 1850. ... The first settlers had selected their burial ground, which is still the cemetery of the congregation (1900), and the first church was built here. Pastor Herman G. Preus was the first pastor." From Rev. O.J. Nordby's report at anniversary.
      Johannes' daughter Josephine Beate was christened here in 1850.
      Christian Johannesens son Carl Johan was christened here in John Helgesens home in Dec 1848. His mother was Pernille Christophersdtr. (1813-1890). Uncle/brother Peder was a witness.
      Peder Johannesens daugher Berthe Helena was christened in 1852, her mother was Ingeborg Jensdtr. (1825-1856)
      Ingeborg Jensdtr., Peder Johannesen, Anne Østensdtr. and Ole Christopherson were witnesess when Johannes' son Uri(ah) (Jurai Ørbælt) was christened here in Feb 1853. The same witnesses plus Niels Knudson when Carl Johan was christened in July 1854.
      Bergit and Johannes were among the witnesses for Jens Bernt, Peder's son in 1855.
      For Norman Johannes' son in 1857, witnesses were Pernille Christophersdtr., Gunhild Olsdtr., Christian Johanson, Nils Eggerud (uncle) and Mathis Haakenson.
