Hans P. Johnson, 26, Victim; Cigarette Held Cause of Blaze
Hans Peter Johnson, 20, of 233 Harding St., died of suffocation, in his home early Sunday after a fire, apparently caused by a smouldering cigarette, filled the house with smoke.
Coroner Joseph Bloodgood ruled the death accidental. He said firemen from Nos. 5 and 8 companies told him the fire probably was caused when Mr. Johnson left a cigarette burning, which set fire to a sofa in the living room.
Surviving are his, mother, Mrs. M. A. Hauser, at home; three brothers, Robert, Madison, Sammy, at home, and Elliott, with the army in Korea; two sisters, Mrs. Charles [Alice] Pollock, Verona, and Mrs. Wendell [Mildred] Nord, Madison; and several nieces and a nephew.
