Worked in a munitions plant as a locomotive engineer in Montreal until the end of WWII (1945), when the Bessettes moved to suburban Detroit. The Bessettes had purchased property in Missouri that included an apple orchard, travelling from Montreal to Detroit, there was an auto accident, and the family ended up staying in the Detroit area, at 5971 Weddel, Dearborn.
Worked as a crane operator at the Ace Scrap Yard at Dix and Fort Street (Lincoln Park).


Horace-Leonidas married Mildred Bass, daughter of William Calvin "Will" Bass and Nancy Elizabeth Simmons, on 24 Feb 1926 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States.
